Cavity Walls Constructed With Insulation – Bungalow Day 10

How deep is the cavity insulation? It's 10cm deep and Earthwool

Today the builders started on the internal block wall and the cavity insulation. Today I learned that the inner and outer blocks are different, inner having better thermal properties – they contain more air. And that insulation is now 10cm thick (Earthwool insulation), but was only 3cm thick a “few” years ago when the builder started doing extensions … you can learn a lot chatting to the builders in the morning!

Now that the internal walls are in place in parts I could measure the rooms, and they came pretty much to 280cm and 380cm – exactly as I had planned – although, once plasterboarded, they will be a little smaller.

  1. Good job, I remember reading your blog a few years ago about the last extension you built. I just come across your site again and had a read through the new posts. Excellent info for anyone planning on building an extension.

  2. I really enjoy the posts. I’m planning my own bungalow extension soon and you’ve given me a lot of helpful info. Are there any more posts about your bungalow extension coming?

  3. Thanks Tim. The extension is now finished, i just got tired of blogging! Will try to update it with photos and short posts!
