Today the whole floor area was covered with the crush (like MOT1 hardcore, I think) and then compacted. It is very solid and level, great work. A gulley was left, which I assume is so that when the whole area is covered with concrete, there will be some additional strength below where the wall will sit. Although not a supporting wall, the partition stud wall will have some weight and also carry kitchen units, TV, shelves, radiator etc. so won’t be light!
The walls are looking good, with air bricks in place to extend the sub-floor ventilation in the original bungalow. Had a good chat with the builders this morning, and have modified the plans a little. This is the latest plan – washer and drier on the external wall, cooker in the internal wall, and French doors to rear of kitchen-diner instead of the window.
I originally thought a window would give it a nice dining room feel, but late last night decided that I would probably later regret not having French doors in my kitchen-diner, especially as it is south facing to the garden!
